Circus attractions are completely captivating
Book review: ‘The Night Circus,” by Erin Morgenstern
August 25, 2015
A mysterious circus called the “Le Cirque des Reves” arrives out of no where and is only open in the middle of night. It is filled with wondrous attractions that tickle the imagination and performers that are magical, but behind the scenes there is more to the circus.
Two enchanting men have started a game. Celia and Marco have been training since childhood for this game, which is really more a battle of will and invention than anything else. So now the players have been set up in the circus and no one know the rule of this game or how there will be a winner in the end. As the game goes on, the attractions within the circus grow more and more amazing and you are thrown for twist that you do not see coming until they are over.
“The circus arrives without warning” was the most powerful quote from the book “The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern. It sucks you into this world full of strange magic and holds on to you well after the last word is read.
Morgenstern has created a world that seems more like a dream than words on a page. Every detail in this book has been accounted for right down to the spices that they put in the cider and the details on the costumes. If you read it for long enough you start to feel like you are actually at “Le Cirque des Reves.”
Morgenstern has an amazing talent for bringing this to life, just like Celia and Marco. This is an author with a rare talent and I really wish her next book would be out sooner than next year. Goodreads, a popular book website, has already announced that her next book will not be a sequel to “The Night Circus,” which is sad but understandable at the same time.
This is a story that I would recommend to anyone who wants to pick up a great book. The circus attractions that Morgenstern has created are creative enough to keep a child entertain and remind an adult of what it’s like to walk inside the big top again.
It touches on the subjects that range from feeling different and wanting to belong to finding love. You can find pretty much anything in this book, just like the circus.
