Allison Althof, Staff Writer

Although “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is very small book, it has a lot to offer any reader who wishes to know about the little prince. In this emotional tale the author narrates his adventure after his plane crashes in the Sahara Desert when out of nowhere a little boy appears asking for a drawing of a sheep. This is where the real story begins.

Way out in the far corners of space is a tiny planet that the little prince calls home. There he owns three volcanoes, one which is inactive, and a single rose with four little thorns. He carefully takes care of everything on his planet from shielding his rose from the wind to cleaning out his volcanoes, even the quiet one. Then one day he decides to leave. Along his journey the little prince many different people on many different planets before landing on Earth and meeting the piolet.

Every story is different no matter how much you want to compare it to something else. There are stories that you wish you had never picked up in the first place, and stories that you never want to put down. There are stories that stay with you for the rest of your life, and stories that you will never remember again. Then there are the stories that have the power to change you. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry has brought to life a magical story that is over before you know it has even made an impact on your way of thinking.

It’s hard to believe that the second I started chapter two of this book, I knew that it was one of my favorite books to read this year. It opens your eyes to a whole new way of thinking that many of us have forgotten about as we have aged. Being a grown-up is an all consuming thing that we all have to go through, and unfortunately there is no way to stop it. Some grown-ups forget how to see the sheep through the walls of the box or fail to question what happens to the little rose who only has thrones to protect herself. This is a book that reminds up that you don’t have to forget how to do these things as we grown and learn, but to remember them as we do.

“The Little Prince” shows us that you do not have to stop questioning life as we get older, but to keep questioning. Keep exploring different worlds, protect the people that matter to you, and don’t forget to stop and look at the sunset. This is a one of a kind book with a huge message that you should definitely pick up and read, even if you only read it once.
