‘The Daughter of Smoke and Bone’
September 21, 2016
“Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love. It did not end well.”
From wishbones to Kirin, The Daughter of Smoke and Bone takes you on an adventure to not just one world, but to two.
The war between the Chimera and the Angels has been thriving for many years, but the main character, Karou, doesn’t know this yet. She is simply a mysterious human with blue hair, but when a talking bird comes by, she runs to become the wishmonger’s messenger.
Our blue haired heroine travels around the world in a blink of an eye just to buy teeth. Why teeth? Well, wishes come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.
Karou’s wish came in a few sizes too big for her and with wings, Akvia. The pull to this new human in her life is quite unexpected. The two fall in love and have to deal with otherworldly events because of their forbidden love.
But love and hate are two horns on the same goat. Quickly after meeting and spending time together, Akvia does a ruthless act with his burning hands, shutting out Karou out of her home world for the rest of her life. What could Karou do, other than to break a wishbone?
Throughout the book, we see the violence of war, young love turning to hate, and a mystery like no other.
Laini Taylor managed to capture love, loneliness, and desperation all in one small masterpiece that deserves to be read by anyone and everyone.
This book has become a trilogy (with a small added e-book in a different character’s point of view) and has taken the teen/ young adult romance section by storm.
If you’re looking for a book that you never want to put down and will take you on an emotional roller coaster, then I recommend you pick up a copy of “The Daughter of Smoke and Bone” by Laini Taylor today.
