On Oct. 29, 2019, an animated web pilot created by Vivienne Medrano released on Youtube, teasing a story fit for a mature audience. It follows Charlie Morningstar, daughter of Lucifer and Princess of Hell, on her unlikely journey to rehabilitate sinners at her hotel. After a 31 minute pilot, being told to “stay tuned,” and almost four long years of waiting; the first season of the show called, “Hazbin Hotel,” recently launched on Prime Video.
It is important to note that this show is animated, but it is not made for kids, as it includes profanity, violence, and other adult content.
Through many, “Disney esque,” musical numbers we learn more about the characters and the realms of hell and heaven. Hazbin Hotel portrays how the duality of light and dark are not always so black and white, but rather shades of grey. The point is that we all make mistakes, but the difference is deciding to try and fix them rather than continuing to make the same error.
The Hazbin hotel world is also filled with demonic politics and power games. The show is hilarious and dark at times. Suppose you are an inner Disney child who will feel so much in the songs that happen every episode. No show has made me think as a human, feeling my inner child for many years.
The show took a lot of criticism from conservatives for its message. The show sells a childhood sense of love, ideals and faith in something bigger than I have seen in a long time. This show really shows how community and friends can be found anywhere and anyone can find love and hope no matter who they are. I say give it a shot.
‘Hazbin Hotel’ shows the duality of light and dark is present in all
