Since 1985, The Silver Eagle has sat as a staple of homegrown hospitality and acted as heaven for both old and new members of the Monona community alike. It’s not just a restaurant in their eyes, but a pillar of the community – an epicenter for countless events and crowds.
In terms of the decorum and feel, it was what you expect for an establishment like this. On the outside, it looks much like any other property from the early days of Monona Drive. Sharing a mom-and-pop shop design reminiscent of the era it was founded, it has internal and external seating areas that are quite simple in nature but wonderfully comfortable for long spurts of sitting and chatting with folks.
Upon entering the Eagle, you wander into a world embedded with Midwestern charm. Between the lively atmosphere, shining neon signs and autographed packer posters, you really feel a sense of midwestern warmth wash over you.
The menu is much as you would expect for your average bar and grill, having their own twist on the classic burger and homestyle fry combo synonymous with bar food. I had the pleasure of trying their whiskey bourbon burger.
In terms of service, it was the best I’ve ever experienced. The server that was assigned to my table was super friendly from beginning to end. Checking in with us every once and while to make sure we had beverages, our food was made right, and any other need that could arise while we were there, she made us feel important and respected without feeling overbearing or fake. This level of professionalism extends to the kitchen as well. Though I did not count, I never felt as if I was just sitting there and waiting for my food.
