If you love drama, dystopian or reality TV, this is for you – my Top 3 Netflix shows of all time. You can catch me with my Junior Mints and yellow popcorn rewatching these favorites.
No 1: “Breaking Bad” – In a dusty 2008 Albuquerque with a sepia tint and a starched pistachio shirt, high school chemistry teacher Walter White finds out he has stage 3 lung cancer. Concerned with his ability to pay for his medical bills and support his family, Walt begins to lead a secret life. In a 5 season series, Walt juggles his two lives as he is dying. Writer Vince Gilligan is nothing short of brilliant.
No. 2: “Love is Blind” – Unscripted reality TV is at its glorious peak with reality royalty Nick and Vanessa Lachey’s greatest creation: single people fall in love and talk to each other every day with the intention of finding the one they want to marry at the end of the experiment. The catch: they can’t see each other until they get engaged. Balancing finding potential love, heartbreak, rejection, attraction, meeting each other’s families, moving in together, and getting married within two months is the most juicy and entertaining recipe for drama at the Netflix supermarket right now. The seventh season is in full bloom, and episodes drop every Wednesday.
No. 3: “Squid Game” – Inspired by his own economic struggles, Korean writer Hwang Dong-hyuk may have created one of the most haunting, disturbing, and memorable stories of the century. We watch Seong Gi-hun’s story unravel: a divorced man, deep in debt who lives with his elderly mother. He is approached and offered an opportunity to win a great sum of money. Desperate, he finds himself amongst 455 other people who are also in severe financial debt, in which they are to play a series of children’s games until there is one winner who gets the 45.6 billion won grand prize, which is equivalent to about 33.2 million USD. However, losing the game means losing your life. Each death contributes 100 million won to the prize fund. The plot twists, horror, loneliness, realism, and desperation of this series makes it deserving of its global acclaim.
