Hispanic Heritage Month festivities at Madison College kick off with a presentation by the La Raza Unida student club from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20 in the Intercultural Exchange, Truax Room C1430.
There will be live performances from Bolivian Dance Group, a chance to learn how to play Loteria and a light lunch provided.
In addition, two other Hispanic Heritage activities are planned in the Intercultural Exchange.
The first event is “Painting History with Frida Kahlo” on Sept. 26 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Learn about Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and spend the afternoon painting a canvas of the famed artist.
The next event is “Honoring Ourselves with artist Justin Favela.” Favela has received recognition for his piñata-style art form. It is his way of honoring his heritage and identity as a queer, Latinx, Guatemalan-Mexican-American. Make your own inspired piñata art pieces or simply help with the Intercultural Exchanges’ Favela-inspired art piece.
