If you’ve been on campus looking for a snack, you have likely run into a Farmer’s Fridge. The Farmer’s Fridge is a large green refrigerator that acts like a vending machine for healthier food options that are “guaranteed fresh,” for students and staff on campus. These fridges were incorporated into the Madison College Campuses in late August.
Senior Manager of Auxiliary Services, Kim Henderson, says, “We were looking for healthier options to those who are on campus after hours, rather than having to choose from chips, cookies and other unhealthy options.”
The Farmer’s Fridges are regularly filled with healthy food options that are sorted into categories for the user’s ease. Categories like, “top picks” can find you options that other people have frequently bought, giving you the option to try something popular.
Other categories sort the foods into food classification, so that customers could find several different types of salad or snacks. Containers could range from having something like chocolate chia pudding or to a southwest salad with chili lime chicken for $9.99 or less.
There are a variety of things to choose from, and if the option you want is out of stock, there is an option to request it for the next restock with the “I wanted this,” button. Or, if you are tech savvy, there is an app available to order items ahead of time or to earn rewards.
If you are looking to try out some healthy food options, try out the Farmer’s Fridge. They can be found on Truax, Goodman South, Health and Commercial Avenue Campuses.
