The mission of the Black Student Union is to foster community and promote cultural and intellectual development through educational, community, and social initiatives. The club warmly invites students of all backgrounds to celebrate the vibrancy and depth of Black culture, history and lifestyles. We aim to provide inspiring and illuminating experiences that honor the diversity, richness, beauty and importance of Black culture.
Who can join your club? The club was originally designed for students of color. However, we believe it is important to keep our allies close with the understanding that we are discussing sensitive matters related to being a Black or Brown student. It is also open to expand their cultural awareness and see things from a different perspective.
When and where does the club meet? The BSU meets on Mondays from noon to 1 p.m. in the Intercultural Exchange Center Truax Room C1430. To optimize Black History Month, the club meets weekly in February. For more information check WolfPack Connect. We take meeting minutes so if you miss a meeting, you can catch up.
What are some of the events and activities your club hosts throughout the year? Black History Month. The History of Braids, Spread the Love and Soul Food Family. Additionally, we partner with the men and women’s basketball teams to showcase Black History Month. Finally, we have collaborated with the Yahara Journal for an open mic session. Dates and times can be found in WolfPack Connect.
Why should students join this club? Joining our community provides a supportive, inclusive environment and leadership opportunities.
