The Yahara Journal is hosting writing, artwork and photography contests open to Madison College students during the spring semester. Submission deadline for all three is March 15.  

Students can enter up to five items using their online submission form at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YaharaJournalContest. If you are unable to enter using the form, you can email your submission to [email protected]. 

First-place winners will receive a $50 prize. All contest submissions will be considered for publication in this year’s Yahara Journal. 

Fall semester contest winners were recently announced. They were:

Artwork – 1. “Undo,” by Rosana Delgado; 2. “Blind Serenity,” by Jade Garfoot; 3. “Charcoal and Conté Study,” by Charlotte Hamilton. 

Poetry – 1. “An Ode to the Necrosis of my Mother’s Feelings,” by Misha Schuster; 2. “The Numbered Swans at Tea Parties,” by Abigail Stern; 3. “Transformation,” by Brooke Jensen. 

Stories – 1. “Watching the Storm,” by Ethan Transue; 2. “The Collector of Glass Memories,” by Samantha Doying; 3. “A Garbage Argument,” by Emily Schoeller. 

Finally, the Yahara Journal would like to invite you to participate in an open mic event on Feb. 22 that is being co-sponsored by the Black Student Union. The open mic will run from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. and be held in the Truax Studio Theater, Room A2031.
