March at the Movies is an ongoing series for March that details how to be a Movie Buff on a budget.
Today’s focus is on the Madison College Libraries’ offering of both physical and streaming movie services. The Madison College Library system has over 3,000 DVD available to students. That includes any of the branch campuses, and there is an inter-library lending service, so you can reserve at and pickup up from any of the campus libraries.
The Truax Library alone has more than 2,000 DVDs, ranging from something you can watch with your kids, to date night hits, to stellar action movies.
The library also provides access to a few streaming services, such as:
Films on Demand – This streaming service is a comprehensive source of documentaries, and primary sources, for any student trying to hunt more details on a topic of study.
Kanopy – This service offers documentaries, indie and foreign films, classics and blockbusters, according to the library’s website.
Swank – A comprehensive collection of classic and fundamentally important films, a great resource for people trying to cross titles from their “to watch” list.
Alexander Street – This is an “academic video” streaming services that covers a wide range of subjects and is designed specifically for education.
These services can all be accessed through the library website by logging in with your student account and clinking on the orange “films” tab in the upper left of the screen.
The library is always looking to expand its offerings, so please keep an eye out to see if they have something new on offer either on DVD or a new streaming service.
In any case, enjoy your time at the movies.
