The Madison College Chapter of Business Professionals of America (BPA) had 54 total competition placements at the State Leadership Conference (SLC) hosted virtually by Northcentral Technical College from February 22-23.
Twelve students competed across 30 SLC competitions in the subject areas of Finance, Business Administration, Digital Communication and Design, Management Marketing and Communication, Management Information Systems and Health Administration.
To advance to the National Leadership Conference (NLC), students must place as a top five finisher for their event. Overall, BPA members had 25 first-place, 12 second-place, seven third-place, seven fourth place and three fifth-place finishes.
Notably, BPA member Jason Nelson rose above and beyond, winning first place in nine of his 11 events, and securing second place in the other two events. All students who competed in the SLC will advance to the NLC, which will be hosted in Chicago from May 10-14.
BPA Torch Awards are awarded leadership and service to their chapter and community within the nine categories of leadership, service, cooperation, knowledge, friendship, love, hope, faith and citizenship. In his first year, Brady Schroeder earned the Executive level Torch Award and Madison College BPA Vice President Kai Brito received the National Ambassador level Torch Award.
Additionally, three students from the Madison College BPA chapter received the Mike Tokheim scholarship for exemplifying the core values leadership, service and extraordinary involvement. BPA State Vice President Katrina Willis, Madison College BPA Treasurer Emily Cauthen and Vice President Brito were selected as the honored recipients of the award.
