The Yahara Journal is hosting a poetry reading on Tuesday, March 19, featuring author Amie Whittemore at 2:30 p.m. in the Truax Studio Theater, Room A2031.
Whittemore is the author of “Glass Harvest” (Autumn House Press), “Star-Tent: A Triptych” (Tolsun Books) and “Nest of Matches” (Autumn House Press, 2024).
She is the director of MTSU Write, a from-home one-on-one creative writing certificate program and teaches creative writing at Eastern Illinois University.
Whittemore was the 2021 Poet Laureate of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and was named a 2020 Academy of American Poets Poet Laureate Fellow. Through her laureateship she partnered with Southern Word to offer “Write with Pride,” a series of poetry workshops and open mics for LGBTQ+ teens.
In addition, the Yahara Journal is hosting writing, artwork and photography contests through March 15. Students can enter up to five items using our online submission form at https://surveymonkey.com/r/YaharaJournalContest. First-place winners in the three contests win $50.
