At the annual Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society international Catalyst conference last week in Orlando, Florida, Madison College’s delegation was honored with a Distinguished College Project award. This award was based on the work and entry submission accomplished by our members and officer team during the 2023 calendar year. Awards were presented to the top 30 highest scoring chapters out of the nearly 1,300 chapters across the globe.
This is Madison College’s fourth international award for our projects since PTK was chartered at Madison College in 1995. And this is the second consecutive year the work of the chapter has been honored and recognized at this level.
Congratulations to the entire PTK College Project Team from 2023 on this outstanding achievement!
College Project 2023: Establishing a Campus Mental Wellness Peer Group
Our project established an Active Minds student-lead chapter to recognize, de-stigmatize, and support the struggles for mental well-being within the student population.
- Through research, we learned that some of the most common student services such as counseling, fitness center or the health clinic are not utilized despite having little to no cost.
- College leadership looked to establish a formalized student-led effort to support those in need, which directly aligns with the college’s priority of helping students succeed.
- Providing peer support for students could increase the awareness of services and provide activities, training, and techniques for personal wellness development.
- PTK would lead the establishment of an Active Minds chapter accessing this peer-based network of college students committed to promoting mental wellness activities for adults.
