Madison College’s annual spring pow-wow is quickly approaching, and volunteers are needed to help with the event. The pow-wow will be held on Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Redsten Gymnasium at the Truax Campus. You can sign up to volunteer for shifts throughout the day.
The pow wow is a Madison College spring tradition held at the Truax Campus. This year’s annual theme, “Celebrating Achievements: Education, Community, and Culture,” will bring together the community to share in the richness of Indigenous culture.
The pow-wow reminds us to remember our past, celebrate our present, and build our future. As we celebrate our students’ achievements, it is important to recognize the communities to which they belong. This event is a way to learn more and immerse yourself in the experience.
This event is sponsored by the Division of College Culture and Climate, the Intercultural Exchange, the Native American Student Association along with support from numerous campus offices.
What does the event include?
- More than 20 vendors will be selling various items in the gym.
- A silent auction will be held at the NASA table.
- There will be two Grand Entries at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. (Grand entries are the start of the pow wow when all the dancers enter into the gym. It provides us the first opportunity to see the various dancers and styles and hear the drummers singing.)
- Native American Student Association (NASA) will be holding a taco stand (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) in the cafeteria.
- Dinner will be provided from 5-6:30 p.m. for the first 350 guests.
