Join Madison College’s Shared Governance: Your Voice Matters!
As students, you are at the heart of everything our college does. The decisions made about academic programs, policies, and campus life directly affect your experience. Shared Governance exists to ensure that the voices of everyone in the college community, especially students, are heard.
What is Shared Governance?
Shared Governance prioritizes student needs and fosters collaboration between students and staff, allowing input on recommendations of policies and plans. Joining a Shared Governance Council involves engaging with subject matter experts, students, and the college community. The councils focus:
- Academic Council: teaching, learning, policies
- Facilities Planning and Investment Council: facilities plans and policies
- Finance Council: budget and financial policies
- Information Technology Council: IT policies and technology resources
- Student Affairs: student initiatives/services and policies
Why Should You Join?
For students, this is a powerful opportunity to ensure that your needs and concerns are part of the conversation, rather than having decisions made without your input.
- Make a Difference: You have the unique ability to influence policies and initiatives that will impact you and future students.
- Gain Leadership Experience: Being involved in Shared Governance gives you valuable leadership experience that goes beyond the classroom. You’ll develop skills in communication, collaboration, and problem-solving that will be valuable in your career.
- Build Your Network: Build strong relationships with faculty, administrators, staff, and students who shape the college’s future. You’ll gain exposure to diverse perspectives and ideas, broadening your understanding of how the college operates.
- Be an Advocate for Change: Do you have ideas to improve student life? Do you see areas where the college could do better? Shared Governance is your platform to advocate for those changes and see them implemented.
