The Student Senate will be hosting its annual Town Hall meeting this coming October. However, the new program adviser, Cole Kallio-Crotteau, says the organization will be taking a different approach in gathering student opinions.
Typically, the Town Hall meeting is a one-day event where the students of Madison College have the opportunity to speak with members of the Student Senate. The event allows students to directly address any issues or concerns they’ve encountered on campus.
“We try to bring in as many students as possible to gather their concerns and learn more about their experiences,” says Kallio-Crotteau. “But this year, instead of doing a one day one time event, we will be collecting this information over the span of one week.”
From Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, Student Senate will be tabling just outside the campus bookstore. They’re expecting to have two tables to both grab students’ attention and to avoid overcrowding the hallways. They will also be hosting at least three virtual events which will take place in Teams.
“This event will allow us to get to know students,” Kallio-Crotteau explains, “and from there, we can learn what matters to them. It allows us to meet people from different backgrounds, which I believe is the most important aspect. We can’t say we’re helping all our students without actually meeting all versions of our students.”
The Town Hall meeting helps the Student Senate gather insights, concerns, and even learn about the goals of Madison College students. As Kallio-Crotteau says, “we’re here to represent you and put your words into action. Our goal is to create a sort of ripple effect, impacting students in both the present and future.”
Every member of the Student Senate will be present during the Town Hall meeting. Each will be hosting a table for one hour. All times are posted on wolfpack connect.
