Last week, the Student Life Leadership Seminar Series hosted “Prioritize and Thrive,” a theme spotlighting time management, organization and prioritization.
This seminar, the second installment of the leadership series, was presented by Student Program Advisor Cole Kallio-Crotteau, who emphasized that the ongoing workshops are a great tool that Madison College wants to improve and expand, offering it to any and all students at the college.
“Leadership can be, and is for, everyone who wants to seek it out regardless of program, time attending Madison College or any other barrier that would inhibit someone from developing their skills and abilities,” Kallio-Crotteau said.
The workshop focused on how students can optimize their time by prioritizing and organizing. Attendees learned how to determine what was a priority, beginning with deciding what is and is not important versus what is and is not urgent.
Research shows that 20 percent of students are more likely to achieve higher academic performance when using effective time management techniques, and 50 percent are less stressed than those who do not.
Students learned that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to prioritizing. The concept is determined by our lived experience, prioritizing what happens over time and prioritizing our academic, professional or personal environment.
All participants were given a list of free time management resources. These included popular apps like Google Calendar and valuable free apps like Miro, Pomodon, Clockify and Coggle.
