On Tuesday, November 12th, Madison College’s Truax campus will come alive with the sights, sounds, and flavors of the Indian subcontinent as it hosts a vibrant celebration of Diwali—the Indian festival of Lights; returning for its second year, this Diwali celebration builds on the momentum of last year’s successful inaugural event.
Diwali celebrates the triumph of good over evil through vibrant family gatherings, illuminating homes with countless lamps and candles. The holiday symbolizes spiritual renewal and the victory of light over darkness, bringing together diverse communities in joyous celebration.
This year, the celebration will feature an incredible array of cultural performances, including Bollywood dancing, Kathak, and classical Bharatnatyam—by both professional dancers and students at the college. The event will also showcase traditional Indian attire, including Kurta, Sari, and Ghagra, offering a glimpse into the region’s rich attire and clothing heritage.
In addition to the cultural performances and attire display, this year will also feature a new and refreshed menu of traditional Indian cuisine, including Samosas, Biryani, Rasmalai, and Mango Lassi. Attendees will have the opportunity to savor these delicious dishes while enjoying performances and participating in the event trivia.
The event is open to all members of the Madison College community, including students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 12th, and join our campus community in commemorating the joyous celebration of Diwali — the festival of lights!
