At the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society 2025 Wisconsin Regional Conference at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay, the Madison College chapter earned several awards for the work of our students from last year.
PTK headquarters runs on a calendar year basis and recently presented awards for the work of the chapter team over the 2024 calendar year. The team submits its project write-ups and nominations each December. These awards were recognized out of the 21 other PTK chapters in our Wisconsin Region.
Madison College’s Beta Beta Psi Chapter was recognized as a 5-Star Chapter for the 14th consecutive year. The chapter again received the highest rating by PTK headquarters for programming and engagement. Chapter student officers annually set the goal and monitor progress to this achievement.
Scholarship Winners: Three students were named to the All-Wisconsin Coca-Cola Scholars Team based on their PTK scholarship applications submitted last fall. They were:
- Jay James – Transfer Pathway Reedsburg Campus
- Hawa Nayaga – Transfer Pathway Truax Campus,
- Ruiqi Zeng – Transfer Pathway Truax Campus.
Ruiqi also was named the Coca-Cola New Century Transfer Scholar receiving the highest scholarship score in the state.
Each year, PTK challenges chapters to engage in two projects. Award entries are scored by PTK headquarters and top scores in Wisconsin are awarded at the regional conference.
Madison College received third place in the College Project 2024. The chapter’s project was about Energizing the Student Mental Wellness Club to provide an operational structure and annual programming plan to this student group.
The Honors in Action 2024 project was based on the PTK Honor’s Program theme of “The Power of Stories.” Madison College’s team researched the ways stories are told focusing on how new technologies allowed for new ways of telling stories and expanding stories to audiences of various abilities in ways never before possible. Madison College earned third place overall among Wisconsin chapters.
Combining these scores, Madison College was recognized as second place Distinguished Chapter among all Wisconsin chapters.
Finally, both Madison College chapter co-advisors were recognized.
Scarlet Martino was awarded as a Paragon Advisor, a recognition awarded to outstanding chapter advisors serving less than three years as chapter advisor.
Marty Crabbs was awarded a Continued Excellence advisor. Marty has served as a PTK advisor for nearly 12 years and has previously been awarded the Distinguished Advisor at the PTK international level.
Congratulations to the college’s outstanding PTK members, chapter leaders, and advisors. A team will travel to Kansas City for the PTK Catalyst international annual convention in April where they are eligible to be honored for their annual work amongst all PTK chapters world-wide.
