Global Showcase takes place April 10
The Center for International Education (CIE), the World Students Association and United Common Ground, are hosting the fifth Annual Global Showcase April 10 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. This event will be held in the Student Lounge on the Truax Campus. There will be dancing, music, a fashion show, other cultural displays and delectable foods from around the world.
All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend this showcase of diversity on campus. Those interested in performing at the event should contact the World Students Association at [email protected].
This event is free for students. Faculty and staff are charged a $5 donation.
Commencement speaker nominations
As the end of the Spring term nears, it is time to nominate a student graduate to be the graduation speaker for the 2014 Spring Commencement Ceremony on May 16. This is an honor for the student and for the program they represent.
Those interested in nominating a speaker can do so by filling out the Spring Commencement Speaker Nomination form at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SCZGP2J. Get the permission of the student you are nominating before submitting the form. The deadline is April 11.
Science Saturday to be held April 12
Science Saturday will take place at Madison College April 12 at 10 a.m. at the Truax campus in Room E1869.
This special science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) event features activities in biotechnology and performances by Fusion Science Theater.
In the Biotech lab, participants will get hands-on experience with the basics of DNA science, extract DNA from strawberries and learn about the science of stem cells and regenerative medicine.
In the Studio Theater, the Fusion Science Theater troupe will perform three short shows that teach big ideas of science to kids and their parents. These shows feature demonstrations, investigation, participation, dancing and music.
Space is limited, so register in advance. Each adult may bring up to two kids ages 8-14. Attendees must be current students at Madison College. The registration deadline is 4 p.m. on April 8. To register, email the Program Activities Council at [email protected] the following information: name, student ID, phone number, number and ages of children, T-shirt sizes and special dietary needs.
GSA presents ‘80s Prom dance
An ‘80s Prom dance event takes place in the Student Lounge (Room 1423) on the Truax campus from 3-8 p.m on April 18. This drug and alcohol-free event will include ‘80s music, costumes, a photo booth and free pizza.
April 7-12 is National Volunteer Week
The Madison College Volunteer Center is sponsoring various activities and opportunities for students to get involved in National Volunteer Week.
April 9: Food Share Tabling, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Truax Cafeteria.
April 10: Interactive Tabling, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Truax Cafeteria.
April 11: Volunteer Appreciation Ice Cream Social, 4-6 p.m. in Room C1435 on the Truax Campus
April 12: Third Annual Run, Walk, and Roll for Cerebral Palsy, 7 a.m.-2 p.m. at Lakeview Park in Middleton
