On April 29, Madison College will hold a Thank-a-Thon as a way to show gratitude to the local taxpayers who approved the “Smart Future” building referendum. Voters passed the referendum on the first try over three years ago.
As part of the Thank-a-Thon, student, faculty and staff volunteers will contact residents in the college district as a way to thank people for their support and to invite them to tour the new facilities. The Thank-a-Thon will take place at the Portage, Reedsburg, Fort Atkinson, Watertown and Truax campuses.
Vice President of Enrollment Management Diane Walleser says it is important to reach out to the community who was instrumental in the planning of the new facilities. When the referendum was initially presented, the college asked the community what areas they wanted to see expanded. The college listened to those suggestions and implemented the ideas into the plans.
“It’s really important that as we reflect on this process and journey that we have been on, to go back and thank the taxpayers and community members for supporting our vision and believing in us,” Walleser said.
Students are encouraged to participate in the event to voice how the updated facilities have created new opportunities at the college. “This building project has created a totally new learning environment for our students,” Walleser said. She emphasizes how students are able to tell the story of Madison College better than anyone at the institution.
Volunteers are asked to make calls for two hours between 5-7 p.m. A script and list of contacts will be supplied. Pizza and soda will also be provided to all volunteers.
Public tours of the campuses will take place on May 6 and 7 from 9-11 a.m. and 6-8 p.m.
