Education across the nation
Wisconsin ranks seventh in quality
Wisconsin schools rank ninth in the nation according to a report released by personal finance website WalletHub, on Aug. 4.
The analysis of all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia was based on 12 different metrics including dropout rates, test scores, pupil to teacher ratios, school safety, and incidences of bullying.
While Wisconsin ranked near the middle of the pack in bullying and pupil to teacher factors, it ranked second overall in dropout rate.
The states test scores for math proved better than average, but reading lagged slightly behind the majority of the nation. The metrics focusing solely on school system quality placed Wisconsin seventh, while the education output and safety ranking was 20th.
The study found that New Jersey had the best school system in the country, followed by Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Kansas.
The District of Columbia placed last on the list, with Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, and Nevada rounding out the bottom five.
WalletHub’s goal in the analysis was to help parents determine “which school districts offer the greatest chance for children’s academic success,” according to the study’s overview.
