The Madison College student senate is looking for applicants for its upcoming elections.  Due by Sept. 19,  The applications will also be used as profiles of the candidates for public view during the election.

The election will take place Oct. 2-7 and ballots will be sent to all students via Madison College email. The student senate is asking all students that may be interested in joining to apply.

With new added seats for the regional campuses such as Portage, Fort Atkinson, Reedsburg and Watertown the students of almost all Madison College campuses will be represented.

The current open positions includes one seat each of the regional campuses listed above and nine seats for the Madison campuses including Commercial Ave., Downtown, South, West and Truax.

The Senate has fought for and coordinated student services such as the reflection room for students, the book rental program through the bookstore and the shuttle that runs between the Downtown, West, South, and Truax campuses.

David Fernandez, Vice President of Legislative Affairs for the student senate and the leader of the elections, is hoping to recruit those inspired to help our student government.

“We’re asking for all students who are interested in joining the student government, being part of change and having a huge impact on the decisions of the school,” says Fernandez.

Time commitments for the position include attending the general assembly meetings every Thursday from 4:30-6:30 pm as well as completing two hours of office service per week.

Benefits of becoming a senator vary for everyone. Leadership building, resume boosting and a semester stipend, for example, are just a few.

Fernandez expands on the benefits, “You get leadership skills, it’s good for a resume for sure and you get lots of recommendations.”
