Unlimited possibilities at your library

Erika Linzner, LIbrarian

Each year, the American Library Association sets aside one week in mid-April to celebrate libraries and highlight the role they play in our schools, colleges, and communities.

This year’s National Library Week celebration will take place the week of April 12-18. The theme is “Then & Now: Unlimited Possibilities @ Your Library.”

While we no longer rely on thousands of little cards to search our collection’s holdings or read journal articles using that ancient behemoth the microfilm reader, it is important to remember that we wouldn’t have gotten to the place we are today without these things.

To quote Pearl S. Buck “If you want to understand today, you have to search yesterday.”

With that thought in mind, please join the Madison College Libraries as we host a series of fun activities this week that will help us to remember our groovy past and celebrate our awesome present.

Monday Treats
On Monday, April 13, all Madison College Libraries will provide coffee and treats to kick-off our celebration of National Library Week.

Caption Our Library’s History
Show us your wit and creativity in our captioning contest for a chance to win a Kindle Fire HDX 7” along with a $50 Amazon gift card to get you started.

Thursday Storytime
We had so much fun last year teaching the Madison College Child and Family Center children about libraries and reading that we’ve decided to do again.  It’s never too early to teach our youngsters that the library is the place to be.

E-book Contest
Guess how many e-books we have in our catalog as of Friday, April 17 at 4:30 p.m. for a chance to win a fun prize.
