Santa’s Wishlist has been a staple of Madison College and the generosity of its community. Every year, staff and students come together to support local families and ensure every child has a happy holiday.
“It’s been a part of Madison College for 44 years,” says Scarlet Martino, the Student Program Advisor of the Volunteer Center. “So yes, it’s older than the Volunteer Center. But even as time goes on, we still see so much engagement with the community.”
All donations are used to provide children in need with presents during the holiday season. An average of 150 children participate in the program every year, all with different backgrounds and ages. There is however a four kids per family limit, and all children need to be under the age of ten to qualify for enrollment.
“Being a student is hard enough,” Martino says, “and money can be really tight during the holidays. This is a great way to feel good and give back to your community. Over the years, this event has brought us really sweet stories and some amazing moments.”
“Now is the best time to come together and help each other,” adds Andrea Renteria, the event coordinator. “We encourage anyone who can sponsor a child to do so.”
Not only is Santa’s Wishlist a great way to be involved on campus, it’s also incredibly easy to join. The first step is to come into the Student Life office and pick up a snowflake off one of the decorative trees. Next, use the Madison College Foundation Account to financially donate. And even if you’re not in a position to do so, you can still donate your time by offering to join the wrapping and distribution events—all of which are currently posted on Wolfpack Connect.
This holiday season, help your neighbors and join Madison College in building a stronger community.
