Goblin Valley State Park in Utah, the sliding rocks of Death Valley Park in CA, or the Moaning Cavern in CA. These may be places that are easily on our “to do list” when we are finished with college.
But what about now? What can we do as students on a budget here in our local area that isn’t a part of our normal day-to-day routine?
Beginning on Nov. 12 and running through March 18 of 2012, Madison’s own Botanical Gardens will be hosting an exhibit entitled “Treasures of the Rainforest.” This event will be hosted inside the climate-controlled warmth of the Bolz Conservatory, giving a refreshing feel of a tropical climate as our own season slowly chills.
As one of the most valuable natural resources of the world, the rainforests boast hidden mysteries beneath the canopy of trees that lie awaiting discovery. Scientists believe that there are countless species of animals and plants that are yet to be revealed.
Ingredients for medicine, replenishable construction materials and foods are just a few of the many luxuries that nature provides to the Earth through the means of the rainforest. Everyday products that you likely overlook have an origin within the luxurious rainforests.
Be sure to save this article so you can remember to take a tropical break out of your busy schedule. The Botanical Gardens can be visited year-round as well. As for this event, once it kicks off on March 18, you can stop by Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The best part? It’s only $1. No, I did not leave out any zeroes. It’s only a buck. If you want to take your children, nieces or nephews, you can bring them along for no extra cost if they are five and under. If you’d rather save the dollar though, you can still attend for free on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon.
But this isn’t the only fascinating event that Madison’s Botanical Gardens hosts. Even yoga classes are hosted inside the gardens for just $12 a session. No prior registration is necessary for this unique experience. Merely show up alone or with a friend on Monday evenings from 5:30 to 6:45, or Thursday mornings from 7:30 to 8:45.
Classes on a variety of other topics are held as well, ranging from single day events to continuous running workshops. Most events are appropriate for individuals of all ages and include subjects such as photography, haiku, gardening, natural pest control, crafts or landscaping.
