With basketball season just around the corner the Madison Area Technical College women’s basketball team held a fundraiser on Oct. 22. The event took place at the East Towne Applebee’s. The team was raising money for their trip to a basketball tournament in Arizona.
The team will need to raise between $12-14,000 for the trip. The pancake breakfast is a big part of their fundraiser. This is in addition to running concessions at basketball camps over the summer and holding a free throw-a-thon at the beginning of November.
Jessica Pelzel, women’s head coach, stated that the fundraiser is also a nice way to bring all the families of the players around.
She believes it’s a good chance for the families to mingle before the first home game.
Both Elskamp and Lass expressed preference for the pancake fundraiser. They spoke about the many hours and huge clean up after some of their earlier ones.
“We did this fundraiser last year, and it was pretty successful. Usually fundraisers are long,” Elskamp said. “This one is kind of fun.”
The team has two returning third year players in Theresia Elskamp and Morgan Lass. They are the only two remaining players from the 2010 national champion team.
“To have that experience back will help us in so many ways,” Pelzel said.
