After being outscored 53-5 in this season’s first 10 games – all losses – the Madison College men’s soccer team got its first win of the season, Wednesday, with a 1-0 overtime win over Harper College.
Marcos Flores scored on a penalty kick in sudden death, after the teams finished regulation play in a scoreless tie. The WolfPack were finally on the positive side of a shutout, with goalie Ian Murphy blocking all seven Harper shots-on-goal. Of its losses in the first 10 games, Madison College was on the losing end of a shutout six times.
The game was Murphy’s first career shutout, first career win for first-season coach Sam Ramirez and the first career goal for Flores. Also, this season’s first win comes just four days shy of the one-year anniversary of the WolfPack’s last win (Oct. 9, 2011).
Three games remain on the team’s regular season schedule, including home games against Carthage College on Oct. 9 and Joliet Junior College on Oct. 10.
