After four straight wins to open the season, The WolfPack have hit a mid-season speed bump, losing four of their last six games to conference rivals.

As of Sept. 23, the WolfPack stand at 6-4 overall and have fallen out of first place with a 4-4 record and are three games behind conference-leading Triton College.

The most recent match was a rain-shortened win over Rock Valley College, 4-1, at home on Sept. 22. Madison College raced to a 2-0 halftime lead and was in control when the rain came during the second half.

Toby Andrews scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season, while Shane Paterson, Ali Barry and Jake Andrews each added goals during the match.

Madison College’s final three games of the season are all on the road. They play at Harper College on Sept. 29, at Century College Oct. 1 and at Milwaukee Area Technical College on Oct. 6.

After an easy win in Milwaukee, the WolfPack looked to capitalize on their conference foe Harper on Sept. 13, but this game didn’t go according to coach Corey Sims’s plan. Looking to dominate the ball and keep possession, the WolfPack just couldn’t string together enough passes in the second half to hold their lead, and ended up surrendering a 2-0 lead.

The WolfPack scored the lone goal of the first half. Toby Andrews finished neatly past the keeper, after he put a great first touch on the ball. Ali Berry provided the pass.

Going into halftime the WolfPack led 1-0, but after their second goal, coming from Shane Patterson, they just fell apart. It seemed like Madison College couldn’t string together two passes in a row, and the defense had too many holes.

Harper gave the WolfPack more than they could handle. Three second half goals gave Harper the victory, their first conference win.

The WolfPack finished with nine more shots than Harper (24-15) but they only managed to put seven of their 24 shots on target. Keeper Blake Dehn finished with four saves.

Madison College opened the scoring after just three minutes on Oscar Perez’s first colligate goal, scoring on an assist from Ricardo Ramos, who broke through the Harper defense. The lead didn’t last long, however, because Harper’s Adrian Jimenez scored just six minutes later.

Toby Andrews was next on the scoresheet after the 34 minute. His goal, which was assisted by defender Ian Nowell, gave the WolfPack a 2-1 lead going into halftime.

Coming out of the half, the WolfPack enjoyed a few sustained spells of possession, but never managed to really dominate play. They surrendered two second-half goals, to Gustavo Ramos Buonop in the 53 minute and Kyle Sparks in the first minute of overtime.

Triton College 3, Madison College 1

Going up against the number six-ranked Triton College, also the conference leader, the WolfPack had their work cut out for them. While Triton didn’t look unbeatable, the WolfPack couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities and only came away from the game with one goal.

The first half consisted of two Triton goals, from Patryk Szatko and Arturo Hernandez.

This game saw the fourth goal from Szatko against the WolfPack.

The Triton defense suffocated Madison College, allowing just one shot. However, that one shot was a goal scored by forward Toby Andrews.
