Both the Madison College women’s soccer and volleyball teams have winning records as of Sept. 23, while the men’s soccer team is hovering around .500. The women’s soccer team stands at 5-1, the 10th-ranked volleyball team is 14-4 and the men’s soccer team has two wins, three losses and three ties.
Women’s soccer
The WolfPack women’s soccer team hasn’t lost since falling 4-0 to rival Rock Valley College on Sept. 5.
Madison College has had three shutout victories since then, defeating Kankakee Community College, 2-0, on Sept. 12 and Milwaukee Area Technical College, 9-0, on Sept. 19. Most recently, the team beat Harper College, 4-0, on Sept. 23.
Offensively, the team has had a balanced attack. Kiersten McHugh leads the team with four goals, while Camille Gilbertson and Samantha Petroski both have three goals this season. Savi Pursley, Delaney Bracken, Mahala Frey, Atziry Ocampo and Tazhia Aune each scored twice.
Volleyball
The volleyball team put together a nine-match winning streak after dropping its season-opener. Its only losses since then have come against ranked competition: John A. Logan College, an NJCAA Division 1 team; Parkland College, ranked No. 5 in Division 2; and Lincoln Land College, ranked No. 15 in Division 2.
Most recently, the team went 3-1 in the Madison College tournament, falling 3-0 in a tight match against Lincoln Land and beating Minnesota West Community and Technical College, 3-0, Lakeland JV, 3-0, and Spoon River College, 3-1.
Middle blocker Courtney Gorum leads the team in kills with 169 and blocks with 27. Daryn Schaefer leads the team in assists with 420 and service aces with 27. Kendall Weisensel has the most digs on the team with 126.
Men’s soccer
The WolfPack men’s soccer team hasn’t won since its 1-0 victory over Rock Valley College on Sept. 5. Since then, it has had three ties and two losses. Most recently, it fell to Harper College, 2-1, on Sept. 23.
Every game has been close, but Madison College has struggled to score. The team has just nine total goals through eight matches played, an average of 1.12 goals a match. Defensively, the WolfPack has allowed just 13 goals this season, helping to keep the team in games.
Sophomore Gabe Voung leads the team in scoring with three goals and two assists. Sophomore Jamie Le Comte and freshman Carter Uhlmann have both scored two goals this season.
Goalkeeper Phil McCloskey has recorded 19 saves and two shutouts.
