A match against defending Region 4 champs Rock Valley College provided a strong test for the Madison College women’s soccer team.
Although Madison College was unable to extend its three-match winning streak despite an early goal, the WolfPack was able to fend off 14th-ranked Rock Valley for a 1-1 tie at home on Sept. 18.
Freshman Grace Brown scored the WolfPack’s only goal against Rock Valley, with a shot from the top of the penalty box that arced inside the right post to give Madison College a 1-0 lead 10 minutes and 49 seconds into the match. The goal was Brown’s third of the season.
The lead held up until early in the second half, when Rock Valley scored on a free kick at the 51-minute mark.
Rock Valley outshot Madison College, 7-4, during the match, including a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Madison College now stands at 3-1-1 on the season, while Rock Valley is 6-2-1 overall. Next up for the WolfPack is a trip to Kankakee Community College on Sept. 25, followed by a home match with Harper College on Sept. 28.
Madison College 4, Waubonsee Community College 0
Three Madison College players scored, and the defense pitched a shutout as the WolfPack posted a 4-0 victory over host Waubonsee Community College on Sept. 14.
Atziry Ocampo opened the scoring almost five minutes into the match, with a rebound off her own blocked shot. It was her first goal of the season and sixth of her career. Sophia Garcia then made it 2-0 shortly before half off a pass from Camille Gilbertson.
Brown added two second-half goals, both assisted by Suzy Hinds Cruz, to secure the victory. Freshman goalkeeper Kaelyn Welch worked the full match without allowing a goal.
Madison College 3, Black Hawk College 2
A back-and-forth match ended in Madison College’s favor as the WolfPack scored a go-ahead goal with less than 10 minutes remaining to claim a 3-2 victory over visiting Black Hawk College on Sept. 11. The game-winning goal by Hinds Cruz gave Black Hawk its first loss of the season.
Yessenia Angeles scored the only goal of the first half 17 minutes into the match to give the WolfPack a 1-0 lead. Ava Schmidt added a goal at the 66-minute mark in the second half.
Madison College 3, College of DuPage 0
Madison College posted a 3-0 victory over the College of DuPage during its home-opener on Sept. 7. Emma McGlynn opened the scoring 11 minutes into the match off a pass from Brown.
Hinds Cruz added a goal just before halftime, while Alexis Been scored at the 75-minute mark. Welch earned the shutout in goal with six saves.
Moraine Valley Community College 2, Madison College 0
Madison College was shutout, 2-0, in its season-opener against host Moraine Valley Community College despite outshooting its opponent, 20-4. Eleven of Madison College’s shots were on goal, but none found the back of the net.
