Madison College freshman Grace Brown scored her first career hat trick on Oct. 16 to lead the WolfPack to a 5-0 women’s soccer victory over Triton College.
All five goals came in the second half, as Madison College dominated with seven shots on goal compared to zero for Triton College.
Brown scored the first goal nearly 52 minutes into the match off an assist by Lexi Huebner. Two minutes later, she picked up her second goal when a goal kick by Triton went directly to her and she bounced it in off the left post.
Ten minutes later, Jerzey Ladwig intercepted another errant goal kick and passed ahead to Suzy Hinds Cruz, who scored to give the WolfPack a 3-0 lead. It was Hinds Cruz’s 14th goal this year.
Brown completed her hat trick 74 minutes into the match, off a deflected pass by Alexis Been inside the penalty arc. It was her 10th goal of the season.
Ava Schmidt scored the team’s final goal off a pass from Brown. It was the third goal of the season for Schmidt and the fourth assist for Brown.
Madison College now stands at 9-2-1 with two matches left in the regular season before the NJCAA Region 4 Tournament begins on Oct. 30.
Madison College 2, Joliet Junior College 1
An early second half goal by Brown broke a 1-1 tie and gave visiting Madison College a 2-1 victory over Joliet Junior College on Oct. 12. Madison College’s other goal came three minutes into the match when Yessenia Angeles deflected a shot off the goalkeepers’ hands and into the top right corner of the net.
South Suburban College 2, Madison College 0
Madison College’s four-match win streak came to an end against 19th-ranked South Suburban College as the WolfPack was shutout, 2-0, on Oct. 9. South Suburban scored 12 minutes into the match and then added a second goal early in the second half.
Madison College 2, College of Lake County 0
A late goal in both halves gave Madison College a 2-0 victory over visiting College of Lake County on Oct. 5.
Lake County controlled the ball for most of the first half and forced WolfPack goalie Kaelyn Welch to make seven saves during the match.
Hinds Cruz took Madison College’s first shot with two minutes left in the half, but she made it count with a goal inside the left post. The second goal came in the final 10 minutes of the match, when Schmidt launched a high-arching free kick over the goalie from about 45 yards out.
