This September, degree-credit students attending classes at Truax, Goodman-South or Commercial Avenue campuses are eligible for Madison’s new Metro Transit tap cards.
These cards are part of an update to the Metro Transit system, which now includes Bus Rapid Transit with articulated buses and new routes designed to enhance ride efficiency and speed.
The official launch date of the Bus Rapid Transit system is Sept. 22, when Madison Metro’s is scheduled to start running, according to the city’s website.
Students interested in obtaining a tap card should visit the Student Life Office at Truax or Goodman-South campuses or the front desk at Commercial Avenue.
The tap-card system is being introduced as part of a broader redesign aimed at reducing the number of stops while increasing the capacity of the buses. The technology will be implemented on the new articulated buses, which will operate with bus rapid stops at Truax and Goodman-South campuses.
To use the tap card, students must tap it each time they board a bus and present a valid Madison College OneCard (student ID) to the driver upon request.
The students will keep the tap card and re-use it for as long as they are students at Madison College. The cards will not need to be replaced every semester like the previous bus passes.
This initiative is supported by a small percentage of student fees, which also fund Metro Transit Bus and Paratransit services, campus-to-campus shuttles, Madison BCycle bike sharing and on-campus parking.
